Did you know?
Did you know concrete was never originally strengthened with steel? In fact, Rebar didn’t appear until the 15th century. A tension device in reinforced concrete, also called reinforcement steel (rebar), is a mesh, wire, or bar made of steel that strengthens and holds the concrete in tension. The surface of these kinds of steel is usually ribbed or contoured to form a strong bond with the concrete.
TYPES OF REO
For centuries, concrete has been a key element of building and construction, and reinforcement steel is crucial to the process. There are two main types of steel reinforcement: mesh and bar.
In concrete reinforcing, steel mesh plays an instrumental role. It has a wide array of applications including driveway paving, patio and house slabbing, building reinforcement and uses in rural applications such as fencing. Steel mesh is available in 3 types; Square, Rectangular and Trench.
Concrete is also reinforced with bars, which are long, thin, ribbed steel bars. There are a few common types, including: Plain Round Bar, Deformed Bar, Starter Bars and Corner bars.
