October is National Safe Work Month – a time to commit to building safe and healthy workplaces for all Australians!
WHS statistics for the construction industry are far from ideal. Everyone has a responsibility to ensure their daily work site is safe. Business owners and supervisors need to ensure all staff are trained appropriately, wear PPE where necessary and report any unsafe practices or faulty equipment.
Members are encouraged to consider hosting an event focussed on WHS with their employees or the wider community to bring a little fun to what can sometimes be a very ‘dry’ topic.
Your event doesn’t have to be large. The aim is to get people together to talk about health, safety and wellbeing in the workplace. Whether it be a family day at the park, employee sporting team, healthy morning tea, staff training sessions or internal newsletter article, these are all wonderful ways of spreading the word and encouraging safety at work.
WHS Queensland have produced a Host You Own Event Kit to help you which can be downloaded here.
